Satara Brown is the Founder of Rebuilding Our Children and Community Inc. (ROCC). In 2015, Ms. Brown formed ROCC to better meet the needs of low income families of the County by connecting them to necessary resources. In September of 2015, Ms. Brown hosted a Back to School Event which provided school supplies to sixty children of the community.
The organization’s Annual Back to School Event now serves over six hundred youth annually grades K-12 and was the birth of Rebuilding Our Children and Community Inc.
In her capacity at Rebuilding Our Children and Community Inc., Ms. Brown creates, implements and oversees out-of-school-time Youth Programming.
Ms. Brown received her Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts from Dutchess Community College in 2012 and later received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the State University of New York at Albany in 2013. Ms. Brown holds an Executive Certificate in Non-Profit Leadership from the John F. Kennedy School at Harvard University and received a graduate certificate in Criminal
Investigations from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She is currently enrolled as a graduate student at St. John’s University.
Furthermore, Ms. Brown is a graduate of the Dutchess County Chamber Foundation’s 2020 Executive Leadership Program.
In addition to the work of ROCC, Ms. Brown has held numerous positions in the law enforcement/legal field over the past nine years. Most recent, Ms. Brown served as the Youth Worker for the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department where she provided crisis intervention to middle school aged youth. Ms. Brown also has served as the Judge’s Clerk at Pleasant Valley Town Court, the Director of Marketing at O’Connors & Partners, a personal injury law firm and in several positions at the New York State Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs.
Ms. Brown is dedicated to improving the lives of children and families of the Dutchess County and has received numerous awards for her dedication to her community. Ms. Brown was a recipient of the 2022 Dutchess County 40 under 40 Award. She is a recipient of Hudson Valley Magazine’s 2020 Women in Business Award. Ms. Brown received the 2020 Black Achievers Awards by Beulah Baptist Church as well as the 2020 Outstanding Community Service Award at the 102 nd Lincoln-Douglas Luncheon. Ms. Brown is also a recipient of the 2018 Woman of Grace Award, 2017 Phenomenal Woman Award and has also received a number of Mayoral Certificate of Recognition Awards, a Certificate of Merit Award from the New York State Assembly and a Certificate of Recognition Award from the New York State Senate.
